Cyrus’ development

So I’m watching Andi Mack in my native language, spanish. Next monday a Walker to Remember premieres for the first time, and in between new episodes they’re airing s1.

And I just have to say, it’s such a different contrast. All characters have changed and developed, but for me in particular Cyrus’ case makes me the most emotional.

The boy went from awkwardly accepting to go on a date with Iris because Jonah was going too. He puked on his shoe and was insecure the entire time.

S1 Cyrus was like “oh yeah I’m going with Iris, but anyways what should I wear for my hang with Jonah?” and “Jonah will never talk to me again!” after the mess of double date.

Look at s2 Cyrus. He evolved a lot, and this is notable especially in the most recent episodes.

The look back scene back then had music that made you feel like it was a serious moment. It was scary for Cyrus because he started recognizing a feeling. When he came out to Buffy, it was also a serious, sad moment. He discovered a part of himself that didn’t like. He felt different, and wasn’t ready to start talking to people about his feelings.

As s2 went on, he started to realize he wasn’t alone. Just remember his speech of his Bar Mitzvah:

“Who am I today? Who will I turn out to be? I don’t know yet. All I really know is that I have people in my life who love me as I am.”

And you can feel the change between his coming out to Buffy, and to Andi.

Now, I know Keep a Lid on It it’s kind of a hated episode on this fandom, because his crush is finally mentioned again. But because it’s gone. For me, it’s one of my favorite episodes, because he’s able to openly talk about his feelings. And you feel kind of a shift on his character. A shift for the better.

He has matured. He has learnt. He stopped seeing Jonah as this super star, impossible to reach person. He’s his friend Jonah, instead.

Now I’m going to talk about TJ’s look back like it was directed at Cyrus, because we pretty much know this is the case due a lot of reasons. But that’s not the point here.

The point is, TJ is clearly part of Cyrus’ story.

He taught him it’s okay to get out of his comfort zone sometimes, and he might even end up enjoying it more than he imagined.

I want you to watch the first look back scene. Like I said before, It’s a serious, almost sad like moment.

Now look at TJ’s look back, and remember the rest of the episode. Remember how Cyrus called him cute, remember all their past moments together, and everything I said about Cyurs development.

And TJ looked back at Cyrus.

What caught my attention the most was the music. It sounded… Hopeful.

And Cyrus seems to realize his crush right afterwards. He says, “You think you’re confused? Take a walk through my head.”

But he’s smiling.

image

It’s a nervous-like smile. But definitely not a sad one, as opposite as when he realized his crush on Jonah.

Because maybe this time, the crush isn’t hopeless.

And lastly, look at the one second clip of Cyrus from the s3 promo.

I have no idea what he’s doing here. But we can notice a slight difference on his clothes and his hair.

And this picture? His expression? His pose?

Radiates confidence!

Remember awkward, insecure s1 Cyrus, and look at that picture again. Because woah.

He’s still Cyrus, the character we all know and love. But he’s slowly but surely becoming more confident. And I’m so here for it.
